2021 Sangiovese
Vinea Marson’s raison d’être and the catalyst for winemaker Mario Marson's departure from the Yarra Valley for Heathcote’s red soils, sangiovese has become central to our story. Finding a natural and abundant home in the vineyards of our estate at the foot of the Mount Camel Range, we have one of the most unique plantings in Australia - comprising some 12 clones from across 4 biotypes - 6 of which Mario imported from Italy himself. TASTING NOTES Dark garnet hue with a slight blue tinge. Beginning with a reserved nose (which often occurs in our cooler vintages), the 2021 Sangiovese reveals itself with a dense core – aromas of dark cherries and bright raspberries alongside a hint of cherry spice. The powerful & plush character similarly dominates the palate – with characteristic intensity of fruit – ripe red cherries alongside dark cherries & redcurrents. The elegant and integrated palate is shaped by soft, juicy tannins that are more refined than in the previous vintage. The wine possesses great mid-palate weight and length alongside balanced acidity, before concluding with a pleasant freshness that shows a bright, long life ahead. CELLARING At the beginning of a long life, the sangiovese can be cellar for 10-15 years. A versatile food wine, with effortlessness at its core, the Sangiovese matches well with wood-fired pizza through to hearty dishes like chicken cacciatore. The most interesting match we've enjoyed it with is a red mullet pasta - don't be afraid to experiment! - Vinea Marson, Winery.
