Established in 1952, Tsubota Pearl, produces artisan metalwork with all components made in specialised workshops in and around the Asakusa area of Tokyo. The 'Latitude' model was introduced into Tsubota Pearl's collection in 2005. It boasts a clean economy of form with a dimensional, ridged design to the casing. The geometric pattern is achieved through a method called 'diamond cut' in which patterns are made with a diamond tipped engraving bit. Tsubota Pearl took the unusual – if inefficient – approach of employing this technique used for jewelry and applied it to polycarbonate. The effect is simultaneously luxurious and utilitarian.
