The most famous wine from a producer that has earned his cult status stripes, the Bini bottle arrow shines like an obelisk in most natural wine bars worth their street cred. Fanino is a blend of white and red Pignatello and Catarratto grapes, vinified in open-air amphoras buried in the soil. It has a soft pinkish colour, full of sweet spices, a tumble of fruits, flowers. The volcanic soil on which the vines rest, and the marine influence of the island give the wine a deep and three-dimensional salinity, the real strength of Gabrio's products.

Gabrio Bini’s Azienda Agricola Serragghia is nestled on the island of Pantelleria, a volcanic mass one hundred kilometres or so south west of Sicily. The island is famed for two things, its capers and the sweet, pretty passito wines made with the local Zibibbo grape; Bini is a master of both. Doesn’t it already sound like the set up for a movie we’d watch? Gabrio’s grapes come from old vines planted over ancient terraces on the island’s volcanic soils. Higher than most vineyards, Serragghia is breezy and kept cool, so despite the perennial sunshine, ripens grapes beautifully. It is a place with a thrumming halo of energy encircling every thing that lives and grows, bottled carefully, and given to us to share.
