Palate is a sensory overload of bitter herbs and bark with an exotic spices. There is much to say about the wines and lives of the people behind Partida Creus. Moving past the calling card labels in ancient fonts for which they are known, Antonella Gerosa and Massimo Marchiori have built an ethos that personifies passion. Bonastre is an hour south from Barcelona, and is where the winery lies. When they first moved here from Piemonte, they were looking for somewhere to reconnect to the soul of the land, they hadn’t yet considered winemaking. Their property, “El Maiol” , is surrounded by a ring of ancient forest, then another ring of almond and olive trees, before you get to their home. Whilst there, tending, they found abandoned vines and started to research their origins. Once discovering it was Sumoll, an ancient, almost forgotten grape, they decided they must spend their lives looking after it. They found more after this, Vinyater, Cartoixa Vermell and Garrut, a literal bounty of forgotten, important fruit to explore. Precision, personality and preservation of history is in all of their wines. They are authentic, and feel purposeful when they are drunk, like dipping your toe into the history of a great and sprawling universe.
