2023 'True Love Waits'
Yes it’s back! This cuvée is always a special release for me. The last time it was released was back in 2017. The label has sat dormant until now waiting for the appropriate wine to adorn again. Yes it’s back! This cuvée is always a special release for me. The last time it was released was back in 2017. The label has sat dormant until now waiting for the appropriate wine to adorn again. Back in 2017 (and 2016) this wine was 100% Nero D’avola. Whilst this one does have a Nero component it is altogether a different wine.
The blend is comprised of Nero, Sangiovese, Lambrusco (not as you know it) & a splash of Syrah. All of these varieties were fermented & aged separately in stainless steel & Amphora. And although on paper it reads like a big red blend, it is very far from that. It is light, very delicate with an extremely pretty structure. It drinks like a premium Jura Pinot noir more than anything else. Translucent pale red in colour with energy & elegance to burn.
A wine worth waiting 5 years to bring the True Love Waits label back! All of the fruit was grown in an ultra-rocky mix of Ironstone, Dolerite, Green Basalt & Jasper on the slopes of Mt Camel & was monitored very closely once we got close to picking. I had making this wine, in this style in mind so the timing of picking was crucial. Perfectly balanced acid to flavour ripeness has equated to a very elegant and poised wine. I could not be happier with this cuvée. - Dane Johns, Winemaker.
