Anton Von Klopper makes natural wine! By his definition, and consequently encouraging the standard of many others inspired by him, natural wine must be made from organic/ biodynamic grapes and naturally fermented. The winemaker must not fine, filter or add anything including sulphur. So this one’s for the zero/zero heads. Anton, along with his merry band of Basket Range bandits, like to make wines for health, to the betterment of humans and the environment. Five of his wines are all here in a pack so you can get to know Anton, the best way how.

Lucy M - 2023 Le Vilain Gris Pétillant
Pinot Gris from Robert Surmann’s black-soil vineyard in Totness. Grapes were destemmed then left to rest for 14 days. Pressed into a 680l ceramic egg for 2 weeks until ready for bottling. Aged on lees for 5 months, then disgorged. Complex and textural fizz. Anton says: A cupric tinge of rose gold, toasty precious precision bubbling over your tongue. It has a delicate palate for a night out with style. Think beluga and bellini and fellini!

Lucy M - 2023 Le Sauvignon Sensual
100% Sauvignon Blanc from a vineyard in Totness with 30 y/o vines grown on black sandy soil overlying petrified schist. The grapes are whole bunch pressed with the free run juice going into large format oak where it’s fermented & aged, until bottled. Anton’s notes: Austere beauty, wild and free with a skewed smile. She can be open for days to unfold the layers of complexity; the minerality of pebbled stream in Abisko, chalky sumptuous meyer lemon nectar, a childlike enjoyment of spun sugar at your first country fair or the tropical notes from eating red rambutan on an Indonesian island.

Lucy M - 2023 Le Petit Piccadilly Chardonnay
100% Chardonnay from the ‘Cemetery Block’ at the base of the Piccadilly Valley on Alluvial black sandy soil. Whole bunched pressed & fermented in 680L vitrified ceramic eggs & aged on lees. The wine is only the free run fraction. Anton’s notes: The dazzling pureness of diamond shards dancing on your tongue in an extravagant poem of etheric sparrows homing in on an invisible beauty.

Lucy M - 2023 L'Enorme Merlot
100% Merlot grown at the Magpie Springs farm in Hope Valley. It has sandy soil & is at the top of a hill near the ocean with strong sea breezes. The grapes are destemmed & fermented in an open top 2000L oak barrel & foot plunged once a day for 3 weeks. It’s pressed into ceramic eggs where it ages & settles. Anton’s notes: The velvet warm of darkness, the comfort of a warm hairy mountain man cuddling in a cold winter morning, the richness of black pudding, the beauty in blackness.

Lucy M - 2023 Syrah De Terre
100% Syrah is from Brackenwood in Hope Forrest with young wines on deep red clay. The grapes are destemmed, foot plunged in an open jarrah fermenter, & after weeks is pressed to French oak barrels for ageing. Anton’s notes: Pliny the Elder would have loved this ancient reduced tight rustic impression of the ancient variety Syrah. In every drinking house since the Romans first planted this grape in Côte Rôtie the earth as risen through the vines and into our veins and nourished our connection to the ancients.
