2025 'Franco' Cabernet Franc
From a site south of Witchcliffe in Karridale, shaped by both the Indian and Southern Oceans. Twenty-five-year-old vines on gravelly loam soils, naturally low yielding, producing just two tonnes of fruit from the entire site. Sadly the final vintage from this vineyard, with the vines removed before Nic had the chance to fully show what they were capable of. That makes this bottle all the more worth having.
Hand-picked and destemmed, naturally fermented as whole berries over twenty days in open fermenters, then lightly pressed to large format five hundred litre oak where it rested until bottling. No fining, light filtration.
Medium weight, floral and precise. The kind of Cabernet Franc that whispers rather than shouts, with a delicacy and restraint that is genuinely hard to find. A final vintage that deserves to be remembered. - Franc About Wine, Distributor.
