The beating heart of the Limestone coast is the oft overlooked Mount Gambier, home of the “Big Blue Lake” and a pocketful of winemakers making use of the uber-fertile volcanic plains with swathes of happy vines. Andrew Burchell and his partner Louise, a farmer and a musician respectively, moved back to Mount Gambier to do precisely this, and form part of a new guard for the region that understood the merit of permaculture, organic farming and making wine that sings of community. They wanted to make Gambier a place that they were proud to raise their daughter Frankie - eponymous with one of their most beloved wines. They make wines that reflect the eccentricities of their personalities, place and terroir with a minimalistic approach.
