Cascina Val del Prete, translated to “Valley of the Priest”, takes its name from the exiled Bishop of Asti who lived in the Roero based valley in 1850. In 1977 Bartolomeo Roagna and his wife Carolina came to happen upon, and purchase the farm, which was being used for planting grains. What emerged was an immense amphitheatre of vines, huddled in the valley. Their son, Mario, has entered the family business and now takes care of the vineyards and the production of the wines. Mario Roagna is one of Roero’s rising winemakers, experimental and thoughtful.
