American Oak Tawny Single Cask TD0452 was distilled in November of 2013 and decanted in May 2023, maturing at 13 years in a single, 300L American oak cask previously used to mature Australian tawny fortified wine. Bottled at 47% and producing only 418 bottles.
Nose: This whisky is dark and brooding. A classic Sullivans Cove, American Oak ex-Tawny. Storm clouds of Dutch cocoa powder loom over an engine oil ocean. It’s raining chocolate covered goji berries. Rum & wine tobacco, candied ginger, glacé cherries and brown sugar syrup rest atop a base of golden kiwi, sesame crackers and raw peanuts.
Palate: Acquaint yourself with the dark delights that the nose brings, because they aren’t going anywhere. The nose moves gently to the palate and the thick, oily texture of Sullivans Cove spirit plays the perfect carrier of flavour. Grip from the oak and tannin from the Tawny wash across the entire palate - this is a mouth-watering dram. Chocolate covered popcorn, rosehip oil and cappuccino foam sit above a bed of autumn leaves and chewy malt.
Finish: A well-placed pause is met by extremely generous length. The finish is ripe with Medjool dates, roasted hazelnuts, 95% cacao dark chocolate and a prolonged, toasty note. Memories of peeling the paperbark from trees as a child are evoked as oak grips the mid palate, while chocolate wafer sticks, orange Jaffa cake and green peppercorns light up the back.
