Bunches of wild thyme, samphire, shiso. Red, red fruit - cherries, raspberries, plum. Velvety and silky but with a touch of ferrous that sends it into hallmark Etna territory. Made from Nerello Mascalese sourced from Giuseppe’s single vineyards on the north-slope Etna estate. There are three “contradas” or sites, that are fermented separately to find their personalities, then blended to perfection. Giuseppe Russo is a star. After years performing as a classical pianist, he founded this estate to honour his late father Girolamo and now tends to this one hundred year old vineyard in Passopisciaro, Sicily. The vineyards sit on the side of Mount Etna, their roots entrenched in mineral rich volcanic soil. The wines from this site always have a smokey, glittery feel, almost as though they are encrusted in warm rubies.
