Beginning just south of Launceston, the Tamar Valley winds 50km north to its meeting point with Bass Strait. TMV Riesling is an amalgamation of three sites and aims to reflect the various aspects and mesoclimates influencing the variety in the Tamar Valley. Ricky Evans has worked with the Three Wishes Vineyard for many years. It’s a warm site in Hillwood, just a few hundred metres from the river, a half-hour’s drive north of Launceston. Two other sites in Relbia―Chartley Estate and Glen Shian― contribute zesty acid profiles to complement Three Wishes’ lush fruit and lifted aromatics. From five- to 25-year-old vines on various soil types (silty loam, rocky ironstone and black clay), the free-run TMV fruit fermented in tank at cool temperatures. The pressings fermented in seasoned barrels and were carefully dosed back after fermentation. The wine spent three months on lees in tank before being bottled. - Ricky Evans, Winemaker.
