You might call this Jauma’s signature wine. And what a wine! James has been working with this organic, dry-grown site for ten years now. Located in Clarendon and perched at 280 metres, the site is owned by Ralph Wood and is farmed organically by Fiona Wood. The own-rooted, dry-grown bush vines are now thirty-plus years old and sit on shallow grey sandy soils over ironstone facing east. The fruit is all destemmed and spends one month on skins before being pressed to a single mature French puncheon. After 12 months, it goes to bottle. From a stellar Grenache year, the 2023 is as good as it gets from this special vineyard: super perfumed, fine but structured and with oh-so-fresh acidity. Wow! This wine is only ever made in tiny quantities, our allocation this year was just ten dozen… don’t say we didn’t warn you. - James Erskine, Winemaker.
