All day every day, Chardonnay. Due to its chameleon like nature, the blank slatedness of it all, the wines made from this grape really can be indicative of the winemakers skill and also the quality of site and fruit. Sourced from the steeper slopes of the Basket Ranges, where it kind of has to grow to retain any natural acidity with the increasing temperatures, this has all the charm of cool-climate Chard. White stone fruits that have had a big, Sicilian lemon grated over it, great length too. Touch of oak to give it a bass tone. It all adds up to a beautiful, understated wine that will please all palates. The lovely Broderick brothers are based in the Basket Range. They look after vineyards that their Dad planted way back when the Basket Range was but a glimmer in the natural wine lover’s eye, rather than a nexus for the “movement”. The wines they make lean on classic varieties with less than classic outcomes, always interesting, thoughtful, beautiful.
