2018 CA Gamay
From their tiny, tiny winery in Châteaugay, cult producers Catherine Dumora and Maneul Duveau create some of the most expressive vins around. They harvest their fruit from very old vines on basalt soil – on average, their vines are 80 years old, meaning naturally low yields and not much wine! Only about 3,000 to 4,000 bottles are produced each year.
This is one of the most nuanced Gamays coming out of Auvergne, with lathers of smoke, earth, spice, cooked fruit and rusticity, wrapped with an incredible freshness and brightness. It's cavernous and deep, yet buoyant and bursting with energy. Wow.
