VHS Wines - Beast 004 Riverland Red Blend
VHS is a collaboration between two long time South Australian friends: winemaker Sam Smith and visual artist Lucas Croall. The wines are based on a series of works that Lucas created during art school, and Sam, ever the inventive, has created wines that reflect their vibrancy and energy. Sam is known for his experimental winemaking methods, often infusing the ferments with Australian botanicals to remarkable effect. He famously made a "creaming soda" wine once.
'Beast 004' is their 4th wine in the series of 18 in total. It's a blend of 95% Negro Amaro and 5% Bonvedro, all organic. Negro Amaro was split across two fermenters: one for 3 weeks carbonic maceration, and the second for 2 months wild fermentation on skins. The wine was then pressed to a single cherry wood-smoked Francois Freres Puncheon for 10 months of elevage. Bottled without any additives; including zero sulphur. It is rich, unique and exciting. Only 666 bottles produced.
