2019 L'Ivresse des Profondeurs
A bright, joyful red by one of the southern Rhone's most exciting young producers. Heaps of red forest berries, plum, strawberry and blackcurrant, with a nice dry edge. Really enlivening; liquid energy. It's 50% Cabernet Franc, 30% Grenache and 20% Syrah, carbonic macerated for three days separately. If the weather's warm, give him a chill.
Valentin Létoquart has always been a farmer and got into winemaking from the farming side. For him, if everything is in harmony in the vineyard it'd translate into the bottle. He manages his vineyard under biodynamic principles, using herbal teas instead of copper and sulphur, and animals provide natural mowing and compost. Val prefers to ferment in concrete to keep purity, and ages all of his wines in old French oak. His wines are pure as pure can be, profoundly reflecting the earth they are from.
