Testalonga - 2018 El Bandito 'Cortez' Chenin Blanc

Working in Swartland, Craig Hawkins is one of the most influential, defiant and exciting winemakers in South Africa – and the New World. Employing hard-core organic farming and intervention-free winemaking practices, Craig has changed the image of wine in a deeply conservative continent. His skin-contact whites are so 'radical' in SA that they've even been rejected for export by authorities who couldn't find the appropriate box to tick!

This Chenin Blanc is from a vineyard planted in 1972, vinified naturally in stainless and 500L barrels. A wondrous wine that's a little shy on nose and incredibly fine and dainty in the mouth, with extraordinary balance and length. Basically a ballerina. It vibrates with tension, telling you that it will expand with age. Really special stuff.
