Songs from Mars - 2019 Ramato Pinot Gris
Grown on Bowyer Ridge Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, at 450 meters elevation. The ‘ramato’ style of wine has a long history in the northeastern wine growing regions of Italy, where the term ‘ramato’ was coined to denote the colour of the finished wine (‘copper’ in Italian).
Hand-picked, destemmed and fermented on skins in an open-top vat for eight days, receiving twice daily punchdowns. Pressed in a basket down to two 227L barrique, where it finished fermentation and rested for 10 months. Fermentation was achieved with native yeast, and no additions save minimal effective SO2 were added. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
