Ramon Jané Mas Candi - 2019 Baudili

WE LOVE THIS WINE. Seriously, it's so good. Like, really good. A blend of biodynamic Xarel-lo and Parellada (50/50) from beautiful untilled estate vineyards of calcareous clay soils in Penedès. The site swells with life and biodiversity – something that is palpably transcribed into the wine. Grapes were handpicked and hand-sorted before being chilled, pressed and wild fermented in stainless steel with no additions. Bottled unsulphured, and very unfined / unfiltered. Layers of lively fruit with citrus, florals, chalk and white grapefruit. Cadences of salinity and minerality lead into a looooong day-dreamy finish.

FYI, Mas Candi is a project by Ramon Jané and his oenologist/winemaker mate Toni carbo, who are poking traditional boundaries in Penedès. The duo cultivate endemic and near-extinct varieties, shepherding them into soulful, elegant wines that express the rich local biodiversity. Super limited production.
