"Puro Rofe works exclusively on the island of Lanzarote, the eastern most island in the Canary chain, about 125km from the coast of mainland Africa. Unlike the islands of Tenerife where Envinate work, or Victoria Torres' home island of La Palma, which are dominated by massive single volcanoes, Lanzarote's moonscape-esq terrain is the result of a cacophony of competing volcanoes, where each eruption has cut down neighbouring formation. The result is that much of the island consists of cooled lava flows and black ash called 'Rofe' which creates the distinct terroir of the island, trapping moisture and allowing for un-irrigated viticulture despite the harsh, dry climate.

Puro Rofe follow an organic regime in the vineyards and a minimal interventionist philosophy in the cellar. The resulting wines show an amazing tension and elegance, more textural than the wines of Envinate or Victoria Torres but with a thoroughly distinct volcanic stamp. The combination of old vines, obscure local varietals and one of the world's most unique terroirs creates fascinating wines the texture and flavour of which we have not encountered anywhere else in the world." – Importer notes
