Pulse - 2017 Syrah

Pulse is a collaboration between Ned Goodwin MW, Andrew Jamieson and producers, ‘crafting eminently gulp-able wines of fidelity to place and a sensitive sleight of hand … the right grapes, grown in the right places, with minimal messing around.’ Shiraz and Syrah are different names for the same grape; the difference comes down to handling and stylistic intent. This red leans more to the lighter French Syrah expression than the bolder Aussie Shiraz style. It’s dainty and pretty, with aromas of violet and flavours of blueberry and smoked meats. But that Limestone Coast soil creeps in and pulls it into an AU–FR tug of war, where that delicate palate gains peppery minerality distinctive to Aussie Shiraz, but with a cool climate weave of freshness. As Ned says, it’s ‘dangerously easy to drink.’
