Les Gras d'Huile BdB Extra Brut
Maxime Oudiette is a bright star amongst Champagne's new generation. A former pharmacist, Oudiette is making micro amounts of wine from family vines in the little-known village of Beaunay – home to only two producers and a mere 40 hectares of vines. He does not use any herbicides, and is on his way to transitioning to organic certification.
This is his is his very first release – a mere 1,200 bottles were made – and it is immensely impressive. It's 100% Chardonnay from three different vintages (2017, 2016 and 2015). Disgorged in June 2020 with two grams per liter dosage, it's an ethereal wine, transporting you to an orchard brimming with plump yellow stonefruits and citrus trees, while the scent of freshly baked bread drifts through the air from a nearby farmhouse. It's rich and all-encompassing, penetrating every inch of your palate with agile acidity and pillowy bubbles. Wow. Just wow.
