In just 10 years, Olivier Riviere has become one of Spain's most revered and most sought-after winemakers. Infusing his French origins with the famous terroir of Rioja, he produces tiny quantities of wine expressing a purity of fruit rarely seen. In keeping with his education and advocation, all of Olivier’s vineyards – whether owned or leased – are farmed biodynamically, and fruit is always harvested by hand. Fermentations are indigenous. Macerations are gentle and short.
'La Bastid' is a blend of old-vine Viura with 10% Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca from old vineyards in Labastida. The grapes are vinified separately, wild fermented in oak barrels and matured on lees in foudre and different-sized barrels with no bâttonage, then left to decant naturally. A glorious nose of honeysuckle and gardenia leads into flavours of nectarine and apple, with electric acidity and a lovely saline finish that makes you salivate! The pitch perfect Burgundian élevage has given this wine real class.
