2018 Muscadet Indigene / melon de bourgogne
Nicolas Reau is a seminal character in terms of natural wine making in France, and in particular, the Loire. This wine is a great example of what Reau is trying to achieve with his dedicated, conscientious farming; clean, distinct and honest. Melon de Bourgogne (Muscadet) is a misunderstood variety, pulled out of Burgundy to favour Chardonnay, replanted along the Western coast of France. Luckily so, it loves the maritime climate and limestone-y soils, becoming crisp, clean but honeyed in the finish. This wine has just the right amount of wild, too.
