2019 Smarazen Bianco Frizzante
Mirco Mariotti's wines are traditionally made, full of historic charm without pretence. They hail from some of the most unique terroir – in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna right next to the Adriatic Sea. Grown literally on the beach 300 metres from the sea, the soil is mostly sand, and many vines are over a century old. They're as gnarly and raw as they come, delivering stunning savoury notes and herbal salinity.
Mirco's 'Smarazen' Rose Frizzante (named after a local card game played on the beach) is made with native Trebbiano Romagnolo and Malvasia, refermented in bottle. Vinified bone dry, it tickles your tastebuds with sea salt and cool yellow fruits, with a herbaceous hug and savoury kiss. Do as the Romagna locals do – eat grilled flatbread sandwiches and drink this sweating bottle of frizzante while playing cards on the beach.
