Maxime Magnon - 2017 Corbières Rouge 'Campagnès'
'Campagnès' is a wild journey from sniff to swallow. Smells like a medieval cathedral, with history and depth, yet lifted by floral aromatics, spice and grip. The palate is a patchwork of stewed cherry, blackberry, blueberry and other ripe dark fruits, prune, burnt caramel, vanilla, baking chocolate, cherry cola, with a hint of anise. Feels like swathes of satin in your mouth, yet with a faintly bitter edge. Whoa. You want this Carignan. Drink today or cellar this beauty for many years.
Based in Languedoc, between Durban and Villenauve, Maxime Magnon produces exceptional wines from the fruit of vines that are over a century old. All practices are organic and biodynamic on the land, with a menagerie of farm animals living with him that he lets loose in the vineyards between November and April to aid the natural microflora. Minimal intervention in the winery, with natural ferments and no fining or filtration.
