2019 Tinto de la Casa Malbec
A succulent red birthed from co-fermenting Malbec from two different vineyards – half from vineyards in Las Compuertas, and the second lot of grapes are from Gualtallary, a locale that gives Malbec its spicy characteristics. Wild fermentation takes place with 50% whole bunches in small vats of French oak, before being aged in the same oak vats for a further 12 months. Deep purple in colour, it’s floral and spicy, complex and rich, with a heartbeat of soft tannins. A wine for comfort or contemplation. Or both.
Matias Riccitelli is a young, bold, adventurous maker producing wines that are shaking things up in Mendoza. His approach is authentic and honest. When many other Malbecs are over-oaked, over-ripe, and over-handled, Matias leans to a refreshing and true to grape interpretation.
