Mario Macciocca - 2019 Monocromo Rose
Former Italian national football player, almost graduate in physics and barman at the historic La Palma club in Rome, Mario Macciocca decided to leave everything and pursue his dream of being a winemaker. Today a renowned figure in the Italian natural wine scene, Mario cultivates 4 hectares of biodynamic vineyards on the slopes of the Scalambra mountains, Pila Rocca and Carmine, along the Simbruini chain on limestone-marnian fields. In the cellar he uses only native yeasts and matures his wines in steel tanks or old wooden barrels. Mario's '19 Monocromo rose is made from Cesanese, which underwent a 24 hour maceration in stainless. No sulphur added at any stage. It's a fascinating rosato emanating bright, sunshiney rays of blood orange, cranberry, raspberry and citrus, with shadows of earth and salinity to make you salivate. Really unique, really delicious.
