The OG wild man of Basket Range has done it again.
"25 year-old Sauvignon Blanc grown on black sandy soil overlying petrified schist. Whole branches of Sauvignon bunches are placed in a 2400L wooden fermenter and the topped with free-run juice until the fermenter's full. The fermenter is sealed and the wine undergoes carbonic ferment and is aged for 4 months on the macerated whole bunches. It's pressed in winter and assembled. Slightly cloudy, golden coloured with with a kaleidoscope of orange hues. Aromas of citrus peal and marigolds lift above the myrrh of snappiness. There is a tension in this wine from the pull of savoury tannins and the sweet perfume of kumquats. Orange wine has existed forever and will never die because it is sublime." – Anton van Klopper
All of Anton's wines are made from organically farmed grapes, picked early for lower alcohol and vinified with zero additives. No chemicals are ever used in the winery – not even to clean (only water is used and occasionally alcohol which he distills himself). Wine for the purest of purists among you. It's basically healthy right?
