"40% Merlot, 40% Syrah and 20% Pinot Noir. The Merlot is grown at the Magpie Springs farm in the Hope Valley. It has sand soil and is at the top of a hill near the ocean with strong ocean breezes sometimes. The vines are 25 years old and VSP trained and spur pruned. The Syrah fruit comes from a farm on the hills in Mclaren Vale and is wild farmed in in shady spot with red clay soils. The Pinot Noir grown in the heart of the Picadilly Valley at the deanery with red clay over sandstone and an eastern facing aspect at the bottom of a cold deep valley. Fruit was 100% whole bunch carbonic fermented for 10 days. Then pressed to 500L barrels and aged and assembled at bottling.
Deep rich and rustic. It’s a vin de label, deep rustic tannin and a little dirty (the way you like it, that is if you like natural wine). Sit by the fire and watch the bottle disappear!" – Anton van Klopper
All of Anton's wines are made from organically farmed grapes, picked early for lower alcohol and vinified with zero additives. No chemicals are ever used in the winery – not even to clean (only water is used and occasionally alcohol which he distills himself). Wine for the purest of purists among you.
