Lucy M - 2020 Samone Pétillant Natural

"Pinot Blanc, Gamay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris (equal parts) from Robert Surmann’s vineyard in Totness with 25 year old vines grown on black sandy soil overlying petrified schist, V.S.P. trained and spur pruned. The wine was a collaboration with Oriol Artigas and myself. Named 'Samone' after our 2 kids both under 1 at the time and their first harvest (Sam and Simone). He really took charge so my recollection of what happened is we destemmed, crushed and soaked Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc for a couple of days, pressed the wine into a 800L amphora and fermented for two weeks until there is the perfect amount of sugar to finish in bottle with a good level of spritz. Then it is aged on lees in bottle for four months and disgorged. Ironically Samone has a salmon colour and is tight and granite from the schist soil. It has a delicate palate of fresh strawberries and white peach. Sooo fun!" – Anton van Klopper

All of Anton's wines are made from organically farmed grapes, picked early for lower alcohol and vinified with zero additives. No chemicals are ever used in the winery – not even to clean (only water is used and occasionally alcohol which he distills himself). Wine for the purest of purists among you.
