"The velvet warm of darkness, the comfort of a warm hairy mountain man cuddling on in a cold winter storm, the richness of black pudding, the beauty in blackness." A warm hairy mountain man – there you go, Anton certainly knows how to describe his wine. This is 100% Merlot sourced from Magpie Springs farm in the Hope Valley, a sandy soiled site located at the top of a hill close to the ocean. The fruit is destemmed and saignéed, leaving a very concentrated skin-to-juice ratio. The juice ferments in an open top 2000L oak barrel and foot plunged once a day for three weeks, before being pressed to seasoned French oak. Boom.

Anton van Klopper makes natural wine! By his definition, and consequently encouraging the standard of many others inspired by him, natural wine must be made from organic / biodynamic grapes and naturally fermented. The winemaker must not fine, filter or add anything including sulphur. So this one’s for the zero/zero heads. Anton, along with his merry band of Basket Range bandits, like to make wines for health, to the betterment of humans and the environment.
