l'Octavin - 2015 Dorabella Poulsard

Alice Bouvot's heaven-high quality small vintages have become insanely sought-after; for good reason. She vinifies grapes she grows in her 5ha of certified biodynamic vineyards in Arbois, or purchases from some of the very best organic and biodynamic producers around France, picking the fruit herself and transporting it back to her cellar. The wines are certified biodynamic by Demeter. They are 'pur jus', with no additives whatsoever – they're 100% grapes fermented with indigenous yeasts. No sulphur is ever added, nor are the wines filtered or fined. Wildly pure stuff.

Alice's 2015 Dorabella is crafted with Poulsard grapes from 50 year-old vines, wild fermented in whole bunches for 6 weeks. The mouthfeel is heavenly, with bounteous texture and agile acidity bolstered by gentle tannins. It opens with a happy effervescence, which soon disappears in the glass. Strawberries and cherries stretch across the palate, spliced by a lingering herbaceousness remeniscent of marjoram or oregano, while melodies of minerality and spice keep you sipping and sniffing until the very last drop. Dorabella is fresh, juicy and light – just what you expect a bloody good Jura red to be. Drink it in Autumn. And Spring. And Summer. And Winter.
