2019 Pipeno Blanco Moscatel 1L
In the granite hilltops and volcanic slopes of the Itata Valley, ancient dry grown vines pull resources from deep within the earth. Here, Leonardo Erazo farms traditional varietals and vinifies without fanfare – harnessing his knowledge from a Masters in terroir; skills from vintages across France, Argentina, South Africa & Australia, and intuition from a profoundly geological mind.
This 1L Blanco is a traditional field blend of Moscatel de Alejandría and Semillon from century-old vines growing on granite with close to zero topsoil, influenced by strong maritime winds. Grapes were open fermented in a 200 year-old Pipa of Raulí – large, traditional vessel made of native Beechwood. Fermented on skins for four weeks before being pressed into the same Pipa for a little more time, then transferred to spherical, unlined concrete for lees ageing. It's richly scented, wild and fresh, with mouthwatering minerality, acidity and salinity. A wine more flexible than a yogi – ideal for thinking, drinking or sinking.
