1er Cru Rose de Saignee NV
Pierre and Sophie Larmandier craft exceptional wines led by a non-interventionalist, non-conformist, purist philosophy. The vineyards are tirelessly farmed biodynamically (almost unheard of in Champagne) and produce exceptionally low yields, with the average vine age being 35 years – ancient by Champagne standards. All Larmandier's wines are wild fermented in large format casks, aged in underground cellars over more than two years, and bottled unfined and unfiltered with low or no dosage (manually) in order to capture every ounce of his incredible mineral terroir.
This charming grower Champagne is Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris from Vertus, where the two varieties grow together in the same plot of old vines. It’s made by macerating the berries for a few days, a technique not commonly used in Champagne. Aromas of orange rind, red berries, pear, white flowers and fresh bread float from the glass, pirouetting through the air with olfactory elegance. In the mouth it's bright and fleshy, rich and racy, with loads of fresh berries and a whisper of spice. Energetic bubbles dance on your tongue. A powerful wine.
