Konpira Maru - 2019 El Pacto Malbec
El Pacto comes from a certified organic vineyard, Finca 2R, in the Altamira subregion of the Uco Valley, Argentina. An incredibly dry part of the world, the vineyards are irrigated from century-old canals that are fed from snow melt off the Andes. The vineyard sits at 1065m above sea level and features a staggering 20C diurnal temperature difference, leading to incredibly vibrant flavours and zippy acid. The wine arose out of a vintage that half of Konpira, Sam, did over there.
Once the berries have sat in their juices for a bit, cooly, the wine was fermented in 100-year-old concrete fermenters and then aged in old french oak barriques, rounding out the following spring. Slate and berry aromatics with a long, lingering palate underpinned with a fine bead of natural acidity. Deep but bright hue and a freshness not often associated with Mendoza, tasty drop from the boys once again.
