Based in Upper Moutere on the South Island of New Zealand, Alex Craighead crafts expressive, zero additive wines from 10 different varieties across 4 vineyards (owned and leased). Fruit is dry farmed organically and harvested by hand. ‘Otono’ is a marriage of Gewurztraminer (50%), Pinot Gris (10%) and Riesling (40%), growing on Moutere clay. Gewürz, Riesling and Gris skins were naturally fermented for 10 days in amphora, while some Riesling and Gewürztraminer were co-fermented in open fermenters for 5 days and pressed to amphora for aging. This is an autumnal wine beaming with bright, crunchy fruit salad and florals, woven with sprightly acidity. One of our favourite Kindeli wines thus far – we're calling it!
