Hervé Souhaut - 2020 Romaneaux Blanc

2020 Romaneaux Blanc

Roussane, Viognier
Northern Rhône, France

Rare rare rare! This is made from 90% roussanne and 10% viognier. Tilting towards gold in the glass with a heartwarming scent of white flowers, pineapple lollies, green pears, sea shells and vanillin. Apricots and honeysuckle backed with glittery acid. The texture is like really high quality olive oil; delicate, warming, nourishing. A truly special wine.

The Domaine Romaneaux-Destezet began in 1993 by Hervé Souhaut. His holdings on the acidic granite soils of the northern Rhône and southern Ardèche hold vines that date pre-phylloxera — from 50 to100 years old. Hervé's holdings are so small, under nine hectares, yet all of them produce such commanding wines. He also produces wines under a Vin de Pays label, helping manage an additional twenty or so hectares. There is a perfume to his wines that is utterly intoxicating, they really are captivating cult wines.
