Gut Oggau - 2018 Winifred
Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe run a 14ha biodynamic estate in Burgenland, crafting distinctive single plot wines from native varietals. Each potion is separated by personality, their labels forming a flavourous fictional family tree. Gut Oggau have become one the most sought after, cult-status wines in Austria.
This '18 Winifred rosé comprises 60% Zweigelt, 40% Blaufränkisch, hand harvested, destemmed, pressed directly into old large format barrels, wild fermented and aged for 8 months before being bottled unfined, unfiltered, with zero added sulphur. Winifred resembles a long juicy pash from cherry lips. Energetic swathes of watermelon, raspberry, hibiscus and cranberry slosh around your mouth like a genie let loose from the bottle, bouncing off your palate and flirting with your tastebuds. Initial reductive notes blow off to reveal the scent of a vineyard in the spring. She’s refreshing, dry, animated and youthful. Do yourself a flavour favour.
