Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe run a 14ha biodynamic estate in Burgenland, crafting distinctive single plot wines from native varietals. Each potion is separated by personality, their labels forming a flavourous fictional family tree. Gut Oggau have become one the most sought after, cult-status wines in Austria.
The duo acquired some new vineyards last year and are working tirelessly to convert them to biodynamics. Until then, they don’t believe the wines will show quite the same depth of personality, so they’ve kept the characters on the labels masked. This rosé is crafted from a co-planting of Blaufrankisch and Zweigelt. The grapes are partially destemmed, and partially direct pressed. It finishes fermentation in old Austrian oak before being bottled without fining, filtration, or sulphur. Notes of watermelon, cranberry and cucumber wrapped up in a subtle earthiness. She's a little shy at first, but with air she unfurls beautifully.
