Established in 2017, Grape Republic has quickly become one of the biggest names on Japan’s natural wine scene. Being in Japan, it’s very difficult to cultivate fruit, so all the wines are made from hybrids that we don’t see anywhere else, hence the topsy-turvy palate descriptions. This is a blend of green, blue and pink varieties: Delaware and Steuben that have seen a week each of skin maceration, direct-pressed Steuben and Neo Muscat fermented in amphorae, as well some Yama Sauvignon. Yama is a Japanese hybrid of classic Cab and native yamabudo, which translated is “mountain grapes”.
