Geyer - 2018 Semillon
The ‘Yetti’ of Yetti & the Kokonut, Dave Geyer also makes wine as Geyer Wine Co from old, often neglected vines around the Barossa and Eden Valley. Throughout his career he’s worked with a bunch of like-minded producers who value sustainability and minimal intervention, including legends like Lammershoek in Swartland and Matassa in France, as well as Torbreck and Spinifex back home. Oddles of knowledge.
His '18 Semillon is a smasher. Fruit from three sites in the Barossa and Eden Valley, all roughly 90–110 years old, and all managed organically. Hand-picked, then half whole bunch pressed to stainless and half wild fermented on skins for two weeks. Pressed to a 1950s foudre for maturation. Sassy, citrusy, herby, juicy, dry, with strong attack through the mouth. A Winter white. And a Summer white. And Spring and Autumn.
