2016 'Ebenezer' Shiraz
Wow. A very special wine from Geyer. Gothic and luxe, rich and velvety. From a 100-year-old vineyard in the Ebenezer subregion of the Barossa. That's very old. Dave leased the vineyard from 2010-2018, converting it in 2012 to organics. During those 8 years, only two notable harvests were processed due to the gnarly old vines’ low yields and frost damage. Fruit was hand harvested on the edge of ripeness to stay true to the density Barossian Shiraz is known for. Destemmed and hand plunged for 14 days, twice daily. Wild-fermented without adulteration and basket pressed into two new French puncheons for a maturation period of two years on gross lees. The resulting wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered, with a touch of sulphur, and then bottle aged for a further two and a half years.
