Foradori - 2017 Granato Toreldego

"Wine is alive: in the glass it evolves, it beats, it goes deep into the body, into the soul. We do not intervene in the winery; nothing is added, but we guide the wine while paying attention to its needs ... we bring into the wineglass the fragrance of the flowers from the mountain pastures, the minerality of the surrounding cliffs, the transparency of the mountain skies, the character of the people that live in these alpine valleys. It is our duty to convey with each bottle the character of the land of Trentino." – Elisabetta Foradori.

Well, that just about says it all! Elisabetta's wines are paragons of purity and personality. Enter Granato Toreldego. This 2017 ruby potion is crafted with Teroldego grapes, grown biodynamically (Foradori's vineyards have been biodynamic since 2002!), with roots plunging deep into the stones of three different plots of the Campo Rotaliano vineyard. Aromas of cherry, currant, licorice, spices and blackberry waft from the glass like an olfactory spell. The palate is cashmere-soft and astoundingly elegant, with fresh blueberries, black tea, olive tapenade and violets sewn with soothing moist rock minerality. This is one of the only Foradori cuvées to see time in oak (15 months) rather than amphora. It's special stuff.
