2019 Nebbiolo d'Alba
Dave Fletcher has been making wine since the day he left school. Based in Barbaresco, the Aussie ex-pat makes seriously limited, seriously approachable wines pivoted on his addiction to Nebbiolo. Not wanting to contribute to the ever-increasing monoculture in the Langhe, 50% of the vineyards he works with are certified organic and the other half is under conversion, while Dave's 'day job' is with one of the biggest biodynamic producers in Barolo and Barbaresco. He also offsets the land used for his grape production with ownership of the equivalent area in forest, swamp and grasslands rich in biodiversity.
His '19 Nebbiolo is a benevolent expression of the variety. It's light and floral, awash with ripe red fruits (wild strawberries, juicy cherries, red currents, raspberries), along with rose petals, fresh earth and black tea. A long finish leaves you satiated and smiling. Get on it.
