2019 Petit Chablis
This Petit Chablis is superb. We repeat: superb. The Chardonnay is from vines planted in prized Kimmeridgian limestone, giving the wine that classic, crunchy minerality for which the region is known. It's weighty and long, tightly-coiled and impossibly pure, with a dramatic presence that fixes you in your chair and forces you to stop, for a moment, and contemplate the liquid in your mouth.
Established in 1895, Domaine Gerard Duplessis is one of the premier producers in the Chablis region. The family-owned Domaine has magnificent holdings across many of the best premier crus. Today their vines are tended by the young and talented Lilian Duplessis, who converted their 9 hectares of old vines to organic farming (certified since 2013). In the cellar, Lilian employs native yeast fermentations, long lees aging and six-to-eighteen month elévage in neutral oak barrels before being bottled with minimal sulphur.
