A wine that stains your palate with inky dark fruits, cherry and tart raspberry. Stains your brain, too – you won't be forgetting it. It's juicier than juice. Soft tannins, soft texture. What a banging wine for the price. It's 100% Zweigelt, fermented semi-carbonically in large used oak barrels, where it ages for 10 months. The rocky soils and the temperate microclimate around Lake Neusiedlersee form the perfect conditions for Zweigelt, and this wine is testament to that!
Despite the modernity of Claus' striking winery (nestled in the village of Gols by Lake Neusiedlersee in Burgenland), everything is hands-off and inherently natural. Claus’ priority has always been to produce wine that is pure, balanced, and expressive of his terroir. His methods are guided by instinct rather than formula, and he is perpetually experimenting and evolving, making wine markedly different in style to the classic interpretations coming out of the region. Claus was one of the first Austrian winemakers to start experimenting with skin contact wines fermented in Georgian amphorae, and in 2004 he was one of the founding members of the Pannobile winemakers – a group that values respect for the land and terroir to preserve traditions in Burgenland.
