Sat within the Austrian town of Illimitz basking in the shimmer of Lake Neusiedl, is Christian Tschida’s house and his surrounding vines. Tschida’s attitude towards life and art and his wines are symbiotic. Infatuated by details, he is not moved by quantity, but rather small movements that focus on improving the tiny amounts of fruit. Little things, like tucking the vines instead of cutting them, preparing for the drought of the Summer to come in the midst of Winter, developing his own treatments based on the personality of his individual vines. His vines have been looked after by his family since the early 19th century, and he feels a deep, intrinsic responsibility to look after the vines in respect to his ancestry. Summed up well enough himself, he wants to make wines that say “Please drink me, I love you, hug me.”
