Champ Divin - 2020 'Castor' Chardonnay/Savagnin

2020 'Castor' Chardonnay/Savagnin

Chardonnay, Savagnin
Jura, France

Yes! Jura! Fabrice and Valérie Closset-Gaziaux of Champ Divin are careful, precise and methodical people, both of them former engineers, which you can see in their cave and their wines. The new cave was built in 2009, soon after acquiring the vineyards they worked to convert to biodynamics, full of stainless steel vats are housed in the fermentation room and each wine has its own maturation vault housing the barrels for their Pinot, Chardonnay, Savagnin and sous voile wines. Their wines are a window into the cult-ish landscape they are grown on, richly fruited, focused, technical and precise with loads of Jurassic acid backbone carrying all the flavours. This is 50% Chardonnay from deep clay limestone soil and 50% Savagnin on grey marl. Easy and early drinking, Jura with some youth to live out! Morning mountain air, breezy, mineral rich and wet stone. Some fresh grass and soft herbs with heaps of limestone rich acid. Wild.
